AbstractRomance₀: a story in relations
Esta entrada solo está disponible en inglés.
A character loves another character. The feeling may be mutual, or it may not. Attraction can coexist with distrust. Parenthood can persist while affection changes. A character can also love, doubt, or hate themselves.
AbstractRomance₀ represents these relations as an evolving directed multigraph: people are circles, relations are labeled arrows, and events change the arrows. The story is the sequence of states and the transitions between them.

The first study follows the main romantic threads of American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules, including Annie and Grant’s parents. Step through seven states, select a character, or filter the relationship layers. Character positions stay fixed so changes remain easy to follow.
Contains plot spoilers. This is a compressed interpretation, not a complete scene-by-scene reconstruction. Parallel events are grouped; self-relations marked with an asterisk are interpretations. Dashed arrows show relations ending at the selected transition. An omitted relation does not establish that a feeling has vanished.
The graph reveals a useful narrative mechanism: Stephanie approaches Emmett to help her pursue Grant, but their interaction changes her relationship with Emmett. An action aimed at one relation transforms another.
